This map tries to break down US relations with Middle Eastern countries into the "with us" (blue) or "against us" (red) dichotomy so popular during the Cold War and the War on Terror. On occasion, though, purple was necessary for more ambiguous relationships, while the red and blue stripes show countries divided, usually by a civil war in which the US supported one side.
